Nannup Community Collaborates on Future Master Plan
Since April 2024, the Shire of Nannup, in collaboration with OTIUM Planning Group, has been working on a visionary plan to enhance community life through cultural, recreational, tourism, and liveability initiatives. The study area includes the Timber Mill site and surrounding properties, extending to the Golf Course and the Recreational Precinct areas within Warren Road, Higgins Street, and North Street.
The Nannup Arts, Recreation, Tourism, and Liveability (NARTL) Master Planning Project is driven by community input and aims to provide a comprehensive plan for Nannup’s future. This includes housing options, a retirement village, sporting upgrades, a skills and learning precinct, and tourism elements, all designed to enhance Nannup’s liveability. This initiative has been made possible through a co-contribution grant from the South West Development Commission.
Extensive community engagement has shaped the concepts for the Master Plan, considering site constraints and feedback from earlier consultations. On Wednesday, October 23, 2024, OTIUM Planning Group presented the NARTL Master Plan blueprint during a community consultation session.
The Master Plan identifies key drivers for population growth, assesses the impact of the timber industry decline, and explores opportunities to diversify the local economy through residential housing growth strategies. The primary goal is to enhance Nannup’s liveability by attracting residents, supporting the visitor economy, and providing diverse, sustainable housing options that align with the community’s aspirations. Future growth strategies, such as festival and event attraction, are also integral to the plan.
The Master Plan addresses residential expansion with a focus on connectivity and community, including bushfire safety measures and strategic access elements. It supports growth and diversity in housing and outlines a local transition plan for the timber industry. The plan also highlights upgrades to sporting facilities, tourism features, housing options, and community facilities, ensuring cultural and heritage investments are authentic and compatible with Nannup’s character.
